It's a me thing

It's been a long time since I have had the opportunity or inclination to 'play' in my doll rooms. I'm very lucky I have a good sized home and no partner to moan about my 'stuff'. I have a garage that I made into a doll room and a small loft (attic) that I also converted. My Mattel dolls live in the loft and my other dolls in the doll room (garage). I also have a study that I sort of use to craft in (cats allowing) and I'm converting dad's old shed into an art room for my two daughters and I.
At the moment we are having some issues with my doll room (ceiling is coming loose and water coming through the floor) It also needs a new door.

At the end is the hospital, on the left are two houses and the lower two floors on the right is the Shopping Mall

Houses waiting to be made and a dodgy ceiling
Like I said I need a new door!

I stopped work in the loft as I thought I might have to vacate it due to some stupid law the government is trying to make all landlords follow. But fingers crossed this might be OK.
At the moment the weather is to cold and wet to do much with the shed conversion and the cold weather also means the cats are in more and I can't leave anything in the study!
I have a lot of stuff stored in the study at the moment too.
Do you like my cat toy box (sorry I have a very English sense of humor)

I do have a LOT of wallpaper some of the sample I send off for and others I get for free from DIY stores.

This is all the workspace I have and often it looks like bellow

Oh, and the summer house has gone rotten at the base and will need to be replaced, this means the stuff stored in there is now either in the loft or dad's shed.
This is dads shed and it needs to be empty so I can lay a floor and add some units and worktops.

Can you see why I have not been able to do much diorama-ring?
I thought when we went into lock down in 2020 I would have loads of time but that was when my dad became ill (dementia) and I wanted to help mum look after him (I have always been a daddy's girl). So my time was spent with my family plus, it was a lovely long summer and we spent a lot of time in the pool and garden).
So now dad has gone and it has been a while, I was thinking I should get back to things. But, I was just not feeling it! Then BING BANG BONG it's back! I have suddenly become motivated not just to start back diorama-ring but to get back to re-decorating  my home. I did start ripping down wallpaper but that was as far as I got.
So I have been looking on line at colours and styles at getting wallpaper samples, (samples are good for dioramas). I have been looking on the DIY sites for paint etc and I have even brought a couple of books.
Before everything was very neutral with just a splash of colour, but I think it's time to add colour to my world!
Now just for fun a few more pictures to show you the mess I'm in now...
This is my stairs without paper, (cats helped too)
You see I need new doors. AND I need to take the Christmas Flamingo down! The ground looks awful from all the rain and that has not helped with the doors either! Facing you is dad's shed (soon to be art room) And on the right is my doll room.

  1. Wow, you have a lot to do ahead of you, but it sounds like you are up for the challenge. I'm sure it will be fun getting things in order and being creative again. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I'm sure that your mom was glad to have your support; I've been fortunate to never have to be a caregiver (yet) but I've heard how difficult and draining it is. I have been going through something similar energy/creativity wise here, only my daughters are all gone, and the youngest daughter took our house cat, who has been devoted to my daughter ever since we found the cat in our garage. Curiously enough, it also involves a loft, at least one of the definitions of loft that we have in the States. In this case, it's a room that could have been a bedroom, but the walls weren't completely finished, and there's just a railing between the room that I guess you would say is on the first floor, and our ground floor. That room is Mr. BTEG's office and hobby room. We're on the way to making the main bedroom my craft/hobby room, and the other bedroom will be where our bed will go. I wish us both the best as we tackle all of our projects!

  2. I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my mother in 2013, but still have my stepdad, who is in his late 80's and just recently lost my beloved cat, which has hit my husband and I hard. Your shed reminds me of my garage, my spare bedroom and my barn! I have been a caregiver for my husband who was very ill in 2019 , in and out of the hospital and had to retire from his business, so I now work and don't have much time to play like I would like to. We have alot of repairs as well, so I totally understand how overwhelming this can be. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers across the pond, Lisa
