Marilyn's Restaurant
I have quite a few MacDonald's items, you know the stuff all with that big M.
Now I'm not a MacDonald's person and did not want one for my dioramas so what to do? Sell it? If you know me you would know that would soooo not happen. That leaves converting it into something I could use.
Hence Marilyn's .... see got a big M.
Next up decoration.... Marilyn was classy, flash and loved her bling. Because of the era I was thinking black and white, retro. Then I remembered I had a Barbie as Marilyn doll.
That was as far as I got, well for the next year anyway as I had other things to get on with.
Space was allocated, doll for display, MacD stuff and the idea of black and white.
Then as I was on my never ending search for wallpaper..... I have 100's of wallpaper samples and never leave the house without my scissors (just in case I see some I can cut off a sample)
I came across this wonderful Marilyn wallpaper in black and white PERFECT.
The diorama is at ground level so not so easy to get to as the higher ones plus I have a wood skirting around the room.I overcome the skirting by bringing the back wall forward a little and glued polystyrene (same depth as skirting) to the wall.
The tile effect wall at one and was made using those square sticky back tile covers
Floor is vinyl floor tiles
In front of one part of Marilyn's will be a park.
Next up the ceiling I thought spotlighting would work (especially as I just found a bag of 14 sets of bead lights)
Measured them out and pinned into place
I used a bradle to make the holes and
poked the bead lights through
Turning over the board and with my daughter holding the board up a little so the light did not come back through.I then taped it all into place.
Glued the walls to the polystyrene pieces and fixed up the ceiling using tape at the front and the back is sitting on the back walls.
I used some weighted pots/boxes etc to keep it all in place while the glue dries.
A quick set up of the furniture just to get an idea on how it will work
Will make my own tables and spray all the chairs black. I was looking to have all the chairs the same but it's trendy to have miss matched chairs and I going with that look! It's way to cold to re-spray at the moment so that will have to wait.
Added some dolls, mostly just to get them out of the way.
Made the wall and windows so the restaurant looks out on the park
Now to add some trees, etc to the park.

oh that is fabulous- especially with the play on Marilyn Monroe- I adore the lights above, what a splendid idea! Can't wait to see it finished! Did you know her favorite dish was stuffed peppers, and that she loved italian food? I used to like reading celebrity biographies, and I read a couple on her. One was by her maid who was Italian. Quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat looks amazing..you did such a great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteI love this! You definitely have a talent for coming up with good diorama ideas. I just might steal a few!
ReplyDeleteFeel free to take away anything that you think will help you
DeleteWhat a great diorama! Can you tell me where you get your sticky back tile covers? I've tried searching for them, but usually only get hits back from your blog. :D
ReplyDeleteThey are tile squares the sort you use to cover old kitchen/bathroom tiles.
DeleteThere will be some nice scenes at this restaurant and in the park. I will enjoy seeing the finished product.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I have a lot of ideas for these dioramas
DeleteWow, that is just simply amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteCould you please sell me one of your doll wedding gowns, if you have any for sale. Im trying to start my doll blog. I dont have a clue where to start
ReplyDeleteAngelina Meadows
DeleteHave you tried looking on eBay? You can find tons of Doll clothes, gowns, dolls, etc. and for really good prices.
I too have thought of doing my own Doll Blog but I also don't know where to start.... maybe Sue W can do a tutorial on that next...? I'd love to read and see it if she did! 😊
I don't have anything for sale at the moment but like Eve said you can always try E.Bay they have loads. As to how to make a blog, yes I could look at doing something on that.
DeleteThe restaurant looks very interesting.
