My Mini Baby.. Hair

 In part one I talked about opening the babies eyes and mouth these thing I have seen other people do and were in part my ideas come from.

Next up I want to give the babies some hair. They do come with painted hair and this looks fine but.. well why not? 

1. FLOCK

For this you first need to cover the babies head with glue, I have silicone glue in the hope it would stay on the head but I have not as yet tried it.

What I did use just to see if it would work was



Then I sprinkled the flock until head was covered left it to the next day then very gently removed the excess.



Now what I did not think about was that silicone is static and draws any old mess onto it. So when I had done the doll was covered! (Bath time). So I thought I would try wrapping them in cling film. This sort of worked but when I removed the wrap any flock floating around still clung to the baby (bath time).


 The Locktite 60 second glue looks to have worked, only time and play will tell. 


After their bath, not to bad but I think they might need another bath? I also tried brushing the flock off with a stiff bristle paint brush and that worked pretty well.

2. CURLS

Sort of like the flock covered head with glue and gently laid the curls in the glue use a tooth pic to move the curls around and leave until completely dry. For the curls I trimmed them of a Barbie who's hair needed a trim anyway.

3. HEAD OF HAIR






 

I again used some hair from a doll that needed a trim but you can buy doll hair on line. Thread a couple of strands of hair (I used a doll hair rooting tool) In the head and out again, repeat until head is covered. Think about your needle placement as this will work towards your finished look. Cut and shape and remember babies often have mad professor looking hair. This method could also be used when you incorporate eye lashes. But don't do what I did and try and add the lashes first as they will disappear into the head!

 

So this WAS my first try and I think I need to work on my technique.  

4. WIGS

 As the other ways worked OK I'm not going to try this but if anyone does please let me know how it works out.

 If you are not interested in wallpaper you might want to move on to the next post. I use the doll to show scale and I have left in a couple of bloopers. My wallpaper collection started about 30 years ago and while I have thrown out a few I still have ...well a lot!   The picture below shows what happens if you use the wrong kind of glue. This is the type of paper you get for model railways and I did it like other papers using a boarder glue.. not such a good idea.   Below is another example of when things don't go to plan. Simple Wardrobes And Storage

I have a TON of doll clothing and after years of rummaging through bags and never finding what I'm looking for or even remembering what I have so I thought it was time I made some quick, simple and cheap storage.  The cheapest is to use a doll box and just fit a bar for hanging but I wanted something just a little more so this is what I came up with.... You will need Foamcore board I used 5mm thick board 60cm x 84cm Foam 2 Foam glue You can use any glue but this works best I think Ruler Tape measure Pencil Something sharp to cut with (craft knife Cutting board I have a big board but a smaller one would work Metal ruler if possible (Helps with cutting a straight line)  The rods are the metal rods from the Integrity Doll stands. They are great as they are adjustable.  All of the above can be found on E.Bay or craft stores I'm giving you the sizes I use but you can make your units any size you wish.
