Books, CD's and DVD's

BOOKS

This is an easy way to make books.
The making of books for our dolls can be pretty complicated, what with the copying, sizing, printing etc.
No need to get stressed out with these easy and very simple methods....
First look through newspapers, magazines and catalogues for book adverts or review's. I love the Mail on Sunday supplement (UK) it has book reviews and the pictures are just the right size. But I'm sure there are others.
To make your own books you will need
  1. Craft knife or similar
  2. Foam core board. I use a mix of depths 3mm, 5mm and 10mm.
  3. Glue stick
  4. Scissors

Cut out your books leaving extra paper on the left (to wrap around the board)
Glue the cover side to the board face upwards

Cut around your book with a craft knife. I always cut twice. Once around the edge but not right through then again cutting right through. This helps if the board is thick or knife not as sharp as should be.
Then glue the extra paper around the board. Make sure you dab extra glue on the spine of the book and rub with your finger for a clean finish.

If you want your book to open you can either use two pieces of board or carefully cut the board in half.
If you want to add writing to spine or inside of book look out for something with small writing like 'terms and conditions' or medicine leaflets.  If you are using books from magazines they will be shinny but from newspapers and leaflets they will be printed on a cheap dull paper. You can brighten these up by covering them with clear tape.

The book shelf I made from a Cadbury Mini-Rolls box. I used 5mm foam-core board for the shelving and held them in place with small tacks.

I have now made so many books I needed a new slightly bigger bookcase

You can also buy ready made books or printable books on Etsy or Evil Bay. Facebook have printable mini groups and there are 100's on Pinterest.

CD's, DVD's and Games

To make these you will need
  1. Small pictures of CD's etc. Try catalogues or magazines.
  2. Card. I keep my old Birthday/Christmas cards for this sort of thing.
  3. Scissors
  4. Craft knife
  5. Ruler
  6. The plastic/acetate from the from of a doll box.
  7. Glue stick

Cut out your pictures and glue to card, cut out card

Stick card to plastic and cut out
Turn over and again glue to plastic then cut out

That's it! Done!
